"Women shop for a bikini with more care than they do a husband. The rules are the same, look for something you’ll feel comfortable wearing. Allow for room to grow.", Emma Bombea
COLOUR
A good tip when choosing a swimsuit that flatters your figure is to use a darker colour on areas you want to slim down, and use brighter colours on the areas you would like to highlight and draw attention to.
PRINTS
Prints can look scary on the hanger but they hide a multitude of sins. For example prints with an all over swirl will stop the eye from focusing and will not draw attention to the body shape. However it does depend on the colour, and size of the print. Prints on darker backgrounds are more slimming.
COVERAGE
A big swimwear misconception is that more is better - however this is not always the case! Using huge amounts of fabric over a large bottom or hips will only accentuate the size. A much better way is to choose a bikini bottom with a high cut leg or tie sided as it will lengthen the legs and slim hips as there is not much pattern or colour there to draw attention.
PEAR SHAPE
Wearing a darker pant to makes the bottom look smaller and a bright top will draw attention upwards and accentuate your best features. Any extra detailing on your top half will draw the eye away from your pear shape. Also try a well-cut one piece, as it will flatter the figure. Resist the temptation to cover up in a pair of boy shorts - trust us, a tie side pant is far more flattering.
PETITE
Salinas is great for the athletic and petite customer as the cut is will not swamp your figure. Also it is best to watch out for bulky or highly textured fabrics as these will make you appear shorter.
SMALL BUST
To enhance a smaller bust you could try a halter bikini top like the Moontide tie top that has a seam just under the bust line, or a lightly padded or line top. Swim wear with texture can also help detract attention away from your bust line.
LARGE BUST
Celebrate your cleavage and get lift through halter necks! Seafolly and Moontide do fantastic fitting D/DD tops. We advise to go up a dress size to achieve a larger size than a D/DD. For example, if you are a size 14 E you should try a size 16D/DD as most of our larger busted bikini tops are tie tops it will not affect the fit.
BOYISH SHAPE
You can wear almost any bikini, you lucky thing! Horizontal stripes and bandeau tops will give the allusion of curves as will frills or ruffles at the bust and hips.
The above is just a guide to try and help you. Remember! Confidence is everything, no one is perfect and having fun is much more important than worrying about whether you bum looks big!
